Last night we were treated to one of the most historic nights in sports entertainment. War Games came to The Toyata Center and it did not disappoint, from start to finish this was a brilliant spectacle. Survivor Series is going to have a tough time following last night as the NXT kids have set the bar relatively high as always. Enough rambling lets just straight into my thoughts.
The Good
The Dark vs The Light
Black vs Dream produced the second best match of the night behind the War Games match itself. Not only was this a great wrestling match but it was full of such good story telling, neither man caved in to the others mind games. The match itself produced some great chain wrestling to begin with, then it opened up with each man showing off their offensive skills with a striking masterclass from both stars. In the end it was Black who prevailed hitting Dream with the Black-Mass to pick up the win.
Title Changes
Two title changes took place last night and to be fair both were well deserving for both superstars involved. Their stories differ so we will start with the Vacent NXT Womans Championship, Ember Moon finally got the big pay off for all her hard work over the past two years in NXT. Moon beat 3 other woman on the night which included Sane, Cross and Royce, The pace throughout the match was excellent and in the end Ember hit a double Eclipse to Cross and Royce to claim victory and finally got her hands on the NXT Womans Championship. The second title change came in the form of a new NXT Heavyweight Champion with Almas picking up the victory over McIntyre. First of all this is one that shocked the majority of fans including myself as i fully expected Drew to retain. None the less this match was excellent and with the presence of Zelina Vega ringside and doing her utmost to assist Almas made for an exciting twenty minutes.
War Games
Who would have thought that Eric Young, Roderick Strong and Adam Cole would be surrounded by a double cage, in two WWE rings. This match was brilliant and exceeded all expectations, it was exactly as i called it in my preview. A spotfest, to be fair the gaps between the spots were filled with great wrestling and a lot of high impact moves.Killian Dain stole the show for me, first for filling the ring with weapons, locking the cage and then swallowing the key. Secondly for that unbelievable Coast to Coast, sure we've seen Shane McMahon and Rob Van Dam hit the same move 100 times over but have you seen the size of Dain. The match even drew attention from Dave Meltzer who called it "the best weapons match of the year". Adam Cole picked up the Victory after a running knee to Eric Young, hats off to all three teams who left it all in the rings last night.
The Bad
Opening Match`
In a night full of exciting matches its hard to pick out any standout bad points. This wasn't a bad match but it just wasn't quite up there in terms of excitement and quality with the other matches we had that night. It was exactly what we all anticipated, a hard hitting match with Lars expected to go over. Lars manhandled Ohno for the majority of the match and picked up the win looking unstopable after delivering the Freak Accident
