Survivor Series 2017 Review

One of the biggest events of the WWE year has just passed us by, I have to say I really enjoyed it. I'd almost go as far as saying I loved it only I had just watched NXT WarGames from the night before which set the bar exceptionally high. Possibly one of the greatest PPV cards we have ever seen in terms of matches and superstars that are capable of stealing the show. Let's jump straight into my thoughts on one of the most anticipated nights of wrestling in a long time.

The Good

The Pre-show I'm not going to lie when I first saw that the pre-show was going to be two hours long I was a little worried. WWE added two extra matches to the one that was already present on the card. Matt Hardy took on Elias while Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn faced off against Breezango. Add both of these bouts to the Cruiserweight Championship match, along with a pre-show panel that included Shawn Michaels and a Miz Q&A. I can comfortably say this was possibly one of the best pre-shows ever.

The Opener Match of the Night in my eyes. The Shield took on The New Day in a great match, both teams came running out of the blocks. The New Day really stepped up in my eyes, that spot where Woods picked Big E up, on his shoulders to land a splash and The Shield Triple Powerbomb from the middle rope to pick up the win were the highlights of this match.

Tag Team Excellence The Uso's are brilliant and are one of the best tag teams I've seen since the early 90's. On the mic they are exceptional, in the ring they're incredible. This match was no different with The Bar, who really brought their A game too. In the end, it was the Usos who picked up the win with the highlight for me being that incredible Dive over the top rope tag right at the end.

Protecting credibility Braun Strowman and Asuka have that something special. I like how both stars came out looking as strong as they were or stronger than before the PPV. Asuka was the sole survivor for the Raw women's team, putting on a strong display in the process. My guess is Asuka will stay unbeaten until beating Bliss at WrestleMania next year. Strowman was his usual self, dominating the ring that was until all 5 team members of Smackdown Live contributed in suplexing the monster among men through one of the announcer tables. Strowman did survive along with Triple H for team Raw, who felt the wrath of Braun after the match had finished for trying to double cross him.

The Beast vs The Best I'm going to go out on a limb and say AJ Styles is the best performer inside the four posts(subtle shoutout). He could wrestle my nan and make her look incredible in the ring, and shes bloody 79. I actually forgot how good of a performer Brock is, AJ really brought the best out of him during the bout. Lesnar was his usual self on offence manhandling Styles and throwing him around like a rag doll, it wasn't all plain sailing for the Beast as Styles came close to winning on a number of occasions. It was the Beast who came out the victor hitting The Phenomenal One with his trademark F5 in a great encounter between two Icons of the sport.

The Bad

Triple H As if we didn't expect this after seeing him declare he was the last member of Team Raw last Monday night. After all, it is close to WrestleMania season and it looks to be shaping up that we will see The Game facing off against Angle. Triple H was heavily involved in how the match ended, first turning on Angle hitting him with The Pedigree which resulted in him being eliminated. Then it looked as if he was going to side with his brother-in-law Shane to face Braun Strowman, only to help Shane to his feet and hit him with The Pedigree also and getting the winning pin himself. Hunter did get his comeuppance for his actions after the match when Braun hit him with not one but two running Powerslams.

The woman's 5v5 What an absolute Clusterf**k, seemed so rushed and the divas didn't have any time to showcase their skills what so ever. Becky was eliminated too early, Bayley and Naomi were non-existent throughout. We were left to watch Tamina and Nia stumble around the ring with little action, add this to Natalya being the fifth Smackdown member instead of Paige or Nikki Bella. Let's just say if you need to go to the bathroom, id advise you to go during this mess.

Predictable A little pet peeve of mine here, we all knew Brock would beat AJ to protect him until Wrestlemania. So why did this go before the 5v5 match ?. This left us that had any shimmer of hope that AJ would beat Brock, realize there was no chance of this happening. The reason being that is if Styles had beat Lesnar then the mens 5v5 would have no impact on the score between the brands.
